Getting arrested in Thailand is a very daunting experience and can be very intimidating. If you find yourself arrested for any reason what so ever it is important to remain calm and follow these steps.
Always remain calm or try to calm down, Thai police command respect and getting angry or abusive will do you more harm than good. Be polite and respectful & refrain from swearing or cursing.
Be aware of your rights and do not answer any questions or sign any reports without your attorney present. If the police try to ask you questions or ask you to sign any confessions, documents or reports simply remain calm and request to call your attorney. If you are being asked to take a drug test via urine sample or blood sample, politely request that your attorney be present before you will agree to the test or that the test be carried out at a local hospital by qualified and neutral person.
If you feel you are being bribed or that the law isn’t being followed request your attorney straight away or request to call your Embassy. On the same token DO NOT try to bribe the police, dispite what you may of heard or read on the internet most police are straight down the line and trying to bribe an officer could land you in hot water with additional charges, always let your attorney handle the litigation.
